How to relax – swearing always helps

“ I like to swear a lot, it takes the piss out of myself and the situation I’m in. You’ve got to keep things light!”

840 km with 15500 hm, from Ljubljana to Trieste, crossing the most beautiful paths of Slovenia and Croatia. Some start this as their vacation and take 6 days. In an unbelievable performance, Rob finished and won the spectacular Seven Serpents Race, spending 53 hours and 4 min in the saddle, he even broke the course record. What a statement for the durability of the man and his machine. We talked to Rob, trying to understand what it takes to finish such an adventure with a big smile.

Did you have any special mental processes dealing with stressful moments?

Rob: Not really , but I like to swear a lot, it takes the piss out of myself and the situation I’m in. You’ve got to keep things light! At the same time, I try hard to be present and be hyper focused on the terrain. On these super long rides you have those unbelievable highs and lows. Super huge amplitudes between both sides of the system, you are constantly going through, it is pretty wild. So even if I get pissed off , I get quickly relaxed again by looking around and seeing all the cool stuff. Ok, this is cool… What helps me a lot, that I do feel pretty lucky being able to do all this. I come from road racing, where you pretty much do the same six races every year again and again…I did this and saw it all, I don’t want to do this anymore. Now I love going to many new places, meeting new people and exploring.
